Its this wonton obsession with money that plagues almost all singaporeans.
Just look at the queues outside the legalised betting centres on wednesdays, fridays, saturdays and sundays. Not to mention the time before the horse races.
Its the Singapore Dream they say and i truly agree. To adequately survive in this country, you need to possess the 5 Cs. Cash, Credit Card, Condo, Car, Country Club. You may not need all 5, but at least 3. Car, Cash and Credit Card.
Therefore in our squeaky clean environment, the only way to make it and survive worry free is to have a windfall of a huge sum of money, money that is also not tax-exempt.
While proper financial planning may suffice and should be taught to young children, is it really enough?
Taxes keep increasing, and you pay a tax on everything from your food to your toilet.
Now while im a NS-Fulltime soldier about to embark on receiving my regular class citizenship, i'm facing the worry of joining the paperchase and pursueing the singapore dream.
In my opinion, those really able to enjoy what our sunny island has to offer are those who can afford thr regular. I shop at sales, shun nett prices and bargain. I cant not bargain, no choice. Like a student who has to study for the exams.
Ancient men fought to survive, i study to survive, i work to live. work to eat. not really eat to live. but live to eat.
