so i managed to come back today for a bit and i was observing my canaries for the affectionate behaviour that i've witnessed a few days back. After an hour or so, still no sign of it and my itchy fingers led me to go remove the grilled partition and the female was somewhat dominant, and then the horror! she started pulling on whats left of my scruffy male's tale and i was just shocked.

Recovery actions followed immediately and now i have the headache of wandering if my female really is a female or what i should do with the birds now. separate them or get another smaller cage and split them up? sigh.. the dilemna.
